Bruce Chadwick talked about his book I Am Murdered: George Wythe, Thomas Jefferson, and the Killing That Shocked a New Nation (Wiley; January 9, 2009). The book is the story of the murder of George Wythe, one of the lesser-known signers of the Declaration of Independence who was also a mentor to Thomas Jefferson, John Marshall, Henry Clay, and others. In the book he examines what he deems America’s first “trial of the century,” of former representative Wythe’s grandnephew, George Wythe Sweeny. Mr. Chadwick talked about George Wythe’s life, associates, and role in the nation. Other topics included the history of poisoning, murder, and autopsies. He also talked about his life and career and how he came to write the book.

Bruce Chadwick, the author or co-author of 28 books, lectures in American history at Rutgers University while also teaching writing at New Jersey City University. His latest book is Triumvirate: The Story of The Unlikely Alliance that Saved the Constitution and United the Nation.
