Department of Defense spokesman Geoff Morrell gave the daily Defense Department briefing. He talked about the additional deployment of 3,200 Marines to Afghanistan to assist in training Afghanistan forces and conduct combat operations. He also talked about the Central Command theater reserve force, the actions of NATO in Afghanistan, Polish forces in Iraq, missile defense programs in Eastern Europe, and Iranian action in the Strait of Hormuz.
