Gretchen Morgenson discussed the book she co-wrote, Reckless Endangerment: How Outsized Ambition, Greed, and Corruption Created the Worst Financial Crisis of Our Time, that detailed the 2008 financial crisis. She suggested that many agencies charged with consumer interests were complicit to the actions that created the crisis. In this interview she talked about the role of government in housing finance, and Fannie Mae and Countrywide Financial. She also talked about her early career as a stock broker, what prompted her move into journalism, and her decision to serve as press secretary for Steve Forbes in 1995.
Gretchen Morgenson is assistant business and financial editor at the New York Times and writes a Sunday business section column, “Fair Game.” She has worked at Forbes and Worth magazines.
